In attendance! Thanks!
I also am wondering if for next week we can mention that BADCamp is looking for folks to provide trainings.

➤ We are always working to make DDI channels a better place to work and communicate. If you haven’t already, please read our Guidelines:

:zero: If you’re joining us today, please introduce yourself. If you’d like, tell us your favorite cold treat when it’s hot outside!

alannaburke Alanna in heat wave PA and I’m addicted to ice cream/fro yo/anything in that category. The recent proliferation of low cal delicious ice creams is making me so happy.
drnikki Hi! I’m nikki from AZ (where it’s set to be 115F/46.1C) today. My favorite treat is popsicles when it’s hot.
amyjune AmyJune in California, I am multitasking. I love iced tea with plenty of lemon and mint.
amyjune 115 - ugh!!
mdrummond Marc from MN. Definitely ice cream! To be fair though that is also my favorite treat when it is cold outside too. Gelato is pretty great. I was seriously impressed with French ice cream. I really enjoyed the Violet flavor we had at the Rodin Museum. It was so hot that day. And Violet went really well with Pistachio.
mdrummond I just cannot imagine surviving 115. Yikes!
mdrummond @alannaburke I’ve only had it once, but Halo Top was amazing when I tried it.
alannaburke @mdrummond i love Halo Top, Enlightened, and Breyer’s has a new line, too.
cotterpinx Hi, Lisa from Virginia. I looove pretty much anything ice cream, but today I'll pick a Chocolate Scooter Crunch bar as a nostalgia favorite. Used to be able to get that *only* from the ice cream man, or when visiting my grandparents and they gave my sister and I a buck or two to spend on ice cream and comic books at the corner store. :slightly_smiling_face:
rubyji Ruby in Durham, NC where it’s been in the 90's every day and the humidity makes it feel like 120's.

I like a rosé or cocktail to cool off. :cocktail:

sparklingrobots Tara in ABQ. I couldn't think of anything but @rubyji reminded me I like a cold beer. :parrotbeer:
ekl1773 Elli in DC. Lemon sorbet is super refreshing!
ekl1773 or something watermelon/mint.
hrodrig Heather, Atlanta, GA, in a meeting so lurking. I just want some iced green tea right now
unitoch Paul in Albuquerque. I love me some lemon ice when the day is hot.
catch Nat, UK, lurking. literally have some ice green tea at the moment.
rubyji Tying into @hrodrig & @catch, one of my favorite recent cocktail inventions is green tea, vodka, & lime juice.
sugaroverflow Fatima, running late! Love watermelon lemonade with mint!
alexdmccabe Alex from Orlando, FL, US. Running *super* late. I guess I don't have a specific cold treat, but lately I've been digging on Mini Reese's Cups that I keep in the freezer.
yesct Cathy in Virginia USA. Ice, bubbly water, splash of ginger

0️⃣ *DDI Contrib team sprint day*
`#ddi-contrib-team` is a DD&I initiative aimed at increasing contribution from under-represented and marginalized individuals in the Drupal community. They’re working on new models of mentorship & support around contribution. And they would like to host a virtual sprint day!

They have a form if you’d like to sign up and pick some dates:
or just discuss!

amyjune HA! I don't know if I have filled out the form yet, but I am pretty flexible, so any day/time can be injected into my calendar
sparklingrobots I just checked responses and didn't see you there @amyjune, unless you filled it out anonymously.
amyjune ok - i will submit a form then, thanks tara
ekl1773 :rainbow-sheep: Must get the date-picker doodle assembled asap. Definitely looking for some team leads and anyone who wants to be a deputy leader so we can pass on info and repeat this!
amyjune I am not sure where to mention this: BADCamp islooking for folks to provide trainings. I sent out a tweet through badcamp, but is there somewhere in here I can tell everyone that we're opening up training proposals?
alannaburke @amyjune at the open call at the end of the meeting!

2️⃣ *DD&I Handbook*
We’re working on the first draft of our DD&I handbook that will outline the processes, initiatives, and contributor journey for DD&I:

_Emoji Vote_
This is meant to be a _living document_, but _where_ should it live for the most access to contributions?

:computer: Keep these sections as .txt files in our d.o repo so people can submit patches for changes
:memo: Keep these sections in d.o documentation pages where people can suggest edits?

alannaburke i think keeping it in documentation lowers the barrier to entry, personally
rubyji I still can’t decide.
rubyji I definitely find documentation more accessible.
alannaburke I agree, and they’ll be easier to find. Also, if they live as txt files, they’re going to have to be duplicated somewhere for ease of readability and that will require updating.
alannaburke If we keep the canonical source as documentation pages, we won’t have to do that
amyjune I agree that keeping it in Documentation may be easier for some who are not familiar with the pull request process
cotterpinx The overall process would be the same, though? Someone would suggest a change, make the actual edit, and the changes would need to be approved to be officially incorporated ? (The difference being the process for creating the changed/edited version, and how it gets incorporated)
rubyji OK, I’m voting :memo: .
cotterpinx I'm simplifying there, but just trying to make sure i understand the overview level
sparklingrobots @cotterpinx that's a great question. Is there a way to make the doc changes only a suggestion rather than directly editing?
sparklingrobots When I look at our existing doc: I can just edit directly. It has version control but I would prefer a more formal approval process.
sparklingrobots I don't know if I have special permissions in the Diversity project, or if that's what everyone sees.
alannaburke There’s also the “discuss” option
cotterpinx It looks like I can directly edit as well, so probably anyone can.
alannaburke which doesn’t directly edit anything but allows for discussion of edits, so you could say something like “i propose editing X”
sparklingrobots So we would use "discuss" for the correct process, and then we'd need to watch for edits and revert those/fold them into the correct process.
yesct I think there are notification settings and new maintainer permissions for docs on d.o now. Wish I had recent experience...

3️⃣ *DrupalGovCon DD&I efforts*
DrupalGovCon is happening on August 22-24 in Bethesda, MD.

:heavy_check_mark: DD&I table spot (thanks organizers!)
:heavy_check_mark: DD&I session accepted
:heavy_check_mark: Wonderful volunteers to power this effort

Planning is happening in the `#ddi-gov-con` channel and in this google doc: [Planning for 2018 Drupal GovCon - Google Docs]()

unitoch I promised some work on the presentation this week, and though I haven't done so, I still plan to hold to that promise by putting some more notes in the doc either today or tomorrow!

4️⃣ *Drupal Europe*
The organizers have offered a DD&I table - and other support if we want it.
_Emoji Vote_
:airplane_departure: you’re going and would like to plan something
 you’re thinking about going

P.S: session submissions are still open: [Speakers | Drupal Europe]()

cotterpinx Is there an emoji for "wishing i could go"? :slightly_smiling_face:
alannaburke how’s that?
ekl1773 I submitted the DDI proposal from GovCon as discussed! @sparklingrobots is down as co-presenter :fingerscrossed: :slightly_smiling_face:

5️⃣ DA Board Elections! Voting is open and runs until July. If you have any questions about how to vote, please ask - the format can be confusing and we want everyone’s voice heard!

mdrummond I wanted to share a short one-minute video about how ranked choice voting works:
rubyji I need an “I voted” sticker!
rubyji In case folks missed it in the thread, check out this helpful video from @mdrummond that explains ranked choice voting, which is what is used in our DA election.:skin-tone-4:
mdrummond The tl;dr is that you should feel free to vote for more than one candidate. What you are basically saying is “Hey, if my candidate ends up being dropped from the voting tallies because they got the least amount of votes in a round of voting, who would be the next best option in my book? And if *they* got dropped, who would be my third preference? And so on and so forth.
rubyji The voting interface is quite famously difficult to use. Too bad there are no UI people in the Drupal community.
dmkelner I've been saying that for years. I'd be one of those if I didn't keep getting dismissive responses from developers. :fb-sad:

rubyji In case folks missed it in the thread, check out this helpful video from @mdrummond that explains ranked choice voting, which is what is used in our DA election.:skin-tone-4:

6️⃣ *Personal Check-Ins* - how’s everyone doing? [This thread will not be in the transcript] :no_entry_sign:

7️⃣ *Celebrations*
Our @sugaroverflow is the latest to be profiled in Acquia’s Women of Drupal series: (previously @sparklingrobots, @aburke626, and @ekl1773 were profiled, so check those out, too!)

Also, our very own @drnikki is running in the DA Board elections, and we’re so proud of her - you can read her candidate profile here:

We (my team at current employer) just launched my first official Drupal site as a Drupal professional at the end of June so that's pretty exciting, plus it was a meaningful project to be working on: :tada:

8️⃣ open floor - does anyone have anything to share?

amyjune me! me!
BADCAmp is looking for people to provide trainings in October. Is there somewhere that this could be mentioned. I already did some tweets through Hook42 and BADcamp, but would love to get more exposure to underrepresented groups.
ekl1773 Is there a way to see who’s done presentations/workshops at their local camps and meetups and offer them the opportunity? I guess you’d have to go through all the sites and such.
drnikki @amyjune any particular content? I have a friend who’s a brilliant academic Drupal project manager who might be attending her first BADcamp this year and could give training
amyjune Particular COntent? Not really. I dont think we have any body who has proposed any PM trainings yet.
You can have her send an email to
drnikki @amyjune is there an info page I can send her to first?
amyjune ha! Not yet
drnikki :slightly_smiling_face: not even from previous years as an example”?
amyjune give me a sec
amyjune Here is a link to last year's training page - more for people attending.

Once people let us know we're interested, we send them a google questionaire to fill out....we are just now getting going and wanted to open some discussion here first :0
drnikki Thanks @amyjune!!
drnikki I’ll pass it on
amyjune Thanks! I appreciate it.
mdrummond @amyjune One idea that was mentioned a while back was possibly trying to have a Diversity & Inclusion Summit at BADCamp? Or maybe at minimum a Community Summit?
mdrummond Not sure how something like that happens, and what sort of resources that would take, if there would be enough interest.
amyjune ok - I don't know too much of the planning for summits, but I can mention it in the BACAmp slack channel.
drnikki A community summit would just need a room and some paper - I’ve run the community summit the last two years at drupalcon
mdrummond I’m just throwing the idea out there, so we’d want to make sure there is support on this end if there was an explicit D&I summit.
mdrummond I’m also just starting to look at an initiative to work on improving speaker diversity, particularly looking at what the WordPress community has done, and they have a whole bunch of materials to run a workshop/training to help get new people to submit things.
mdrummond That could make a great half-day/full-day training workshop.
mdrummond There are a lot of exercises we could make use of.
drnikki I wonder if we could fit ethics in there somewhere...
mdrummond Ooooh, an ethics workshop with exercises would be fun.
mdrummond It would be like The Good Place but in real life.
drnikki yeah - i don’t know if people have an appetite for an entire day, but something like “Engineering and Social Good” could cover a lot of things.

Official meeting is over, but the conversations will continue.
Thank you for showing up and contributing to make this community a better space.
