1️⃣ *DDI Contrib team sprint day*
`#ddi-contrib-team` is a DD&I initiative aimed at increasing contribution from under-represented and marginalized individuals in the Drupal community. They’re working on new models of mentorship & support around contribution. And they would like to host a virtual sprint day!
| rubyji | @sparklingrobots is in the midst of moving and other upheaval right now so I’m not sure if she is able to add anything to this today. |
| amyjune | I am still curious about recruitment of mentees outside of Drupal slack channels. How can I engage folks? |
| sugaroverflow | Hmm.
We can tweet about this from our handle if that would be helpful. I think it might also be good to have a short blog post introducing the idea and the form that we could share? |
| ekl1773 | Yes and I’ll tweet it from the drupal mentoring account too. |
| ekl1773 | Blog post sounds ++ |
| sparklingrobots | ++ to blog post & tweeting from anybody who is willing to do that. |
| sparklingrobots | I'm also open to other ideas! Long term I'd *love* to see us reaching out to orgs outside the Drupal sphere but I think right now we still have some details to work out and having mentees already in the Drupal space would be ideal. |
2️⃣ *DD&I Handbook*
We’ve collaborated to put together the first draft of our DD&I handbook (and processes) document. This will be a living document that covers our leadership team, how initiatives will be run, what a contributor journey for DD&I looks like.
`` - reminder that this a collaboration and ideas are being developed - nothing is final yet.
Please take a look and leave comments or suggestions. If you see something missing or have ideas, let’s discuss here.
We’ve also thinking about _where_ this document will live. Should we keep it in our d.o repo so people can open issues to change it? Or in our d.o documentation pages?
| rubyji | This really is just a draft. A lot of y’all have made good contributions to it already and we need more feedback.
For example, there is a whole section on how people would get added to the DDI Leadership Team in the future. I haven’t really processed any of that. We still have a lot of thinking to do. |
| sugaroverflow | Yes, very much so!
The feedback I received was that it’s much easier for the community to comment and suggest when something has been proposed so we put together all the things that we could think of and now need help to expand and define them  |
| alexdmccabe | whynotboth.gif? Keep the source of the document in the repo so it can be changed, on change, post the updated version to d.o? |
| alexdmccabe | Or is that too much work? |
| amyjune | I like the idea of pull requests |
| sugaroverflow | We have parts of the document (for example, the statement of values) on as a d.o documentation. Are people able to suggest edits to those pages? |
| sugaroverflow | I personally felt that documentation pages were more accessible (for non developers for example) - are they? |
| rubyji | They work more like wiki editing and less like commits and pull requests right? |
| dmkelner | Not ever having done a pull request, I'd be intimidated by the process. |
| amyjune | I guess I like the idea of pull requests because they're easier to manage when more than one person is editing a document. But you're right about nondevelopers accessibility |
| sugaroverflow | I believe anyone can edit the wiki pages, but we do have a “needs approval from maintainers for changes” setting enabled. |
| sugaroverflow | I’m happy to hear *more thoughts on this - and will put it on next week’s agenda as a separate item to continue the discussion. |
| rubyji | I feel torn, I can see advantages to both approaches. I use Git all the time but the only time I’ve made pull requests was in GitHub. So I’m still a little unsure about that. |
| sugaroverflow | Both is may also be an option, but we’d have to think about how to update in parallel. |
3️⃣ *DrupalGovCon table*
DrupalGovCon is happening on August 22-24 in Bethesda, MD.
The organizers have offered DD&I a free table this year and we’ve also got a session accepted. There’s a group of wonderful volunteers who are going to power this effort.
Planning is happening in this google doc: ``
If you’ll be at GovCon and would like to volunteer, please
+ I’ve just received some exciting news that @gdd will be at GovCon too!
| sugaroverflow | From the planning doc, >We need to determine what materials we want to display (stickers, postcards, one-pager/initiatives), how to man (full coverage vs office hours), whether we should promote availability of a D&I contact from this group. |
| rubyji | Also, we just learned that our session about DDI was accepted. Thanks to @dmkelner who will be copresenting with me. Now we need to work on some slides. :grimacing: |
| dmkelner | I think I've captured everyone who has volunteered to date, but please check the doc or tell us here. The doc is also our home to collaborate on ideas, so please feel free. |
| gdd | I’ll be there and can volunteer |
| dmkelner | @rubyji I'm at conferences for the next two wks and then available for collaborating on slides. But please all start without me. |
| deanvalentine | I'll be there for whatever you need. Sorry I am in the middle of 20 things right now |
4️⃣ *Drupal Europe offering a DD&I table*
Drupal Europe takes place on 10-14 September 2018 in Darmstadt, Germany. The organizers would love to provide a table in the exhibition area to DD&I as well as any other support.
If you’re attending Drupal Europe and can volunteer for this, please emoji with :european_castle:. It’s still a bit early, but let’s discuss!
:stars: P.S: their call for sessions is still open and <#C3G1G53CN|ddi-session-help> is always around to support with submissions!
| gaborhojtsy | We were not sure if we can promote <#C3G1G53CN|ddi-session-help> as a way to get help before asking, but now we will :slightly_smiling_face: |
| gaborhojtsy |
5️⃣ *Crediting all forms of contribution with projects and issues (not just development)*
@drnikki had the idea for people to comment on the DD&I agenda issues so we could assign them credit for attending the meeting.
We’ve been discussing how we could document and capture how we’ve been using the issue credit system so that other community groups or initiatives could also credit non-development work.
Let’s discuss!
| sugaroverflow | (for more details the issue: `` ) |
| rubyji | It looks like we have inspired others with this approach as well. Kudos for @drnikki for pioneering this. |
6️⃣ *Personal check-ins*
How’s everyone doing today?
| alexdmccabe | ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |
| rubyji | :point_up::skin-tone-4: |
| dmkelner | Passed a major kidney stone this week, so I'm walking on air! And, yes, the pain is worse than childbirth! |
| amyjune | I'm traveling up to San Francisco To work at the office. And then to San Francisco Drupal users group afterward. Working remote has its advantages, but I get excited when I actually get to sit with people from time to time |
| sugaroverflow | I’m hoping I will have a refreshing time visiting family in Montreal and celebrating Eid - I very much need a positive emotional boost  |
| ekl1773 | Am doing pretty well! Pleased to report positive feedback from the mentor meta mtg yesterday, which we did in slack format for the first time! Grateful to this group for all the good examples of how to run a team. |
7️⃣ *Celebrations*
I wanted to take a moment to celebrate a bunch of things :tada:
➤ GovCon organizers providing us DD&I table :stars:
@bendygirl @dmkelner @alisonjo2786 thank you!
➤ the volunteers who put together a session for GovCon and are planning to volunteer or help with the table: @dmkelner @unitoch @tim_nafziger @deanvalentine @nine.lives.black.cat @ekl1773 @littlekope0903 @ashrafabed
| bendygirl | not sure who @alisonwest44 is, but I think you meant @alisonjo2786 who's on the organizing committee |
| sugaroverflow | oops, bad tagging - thank you @bendygirl!
*fixed! |
| bendygirl | any time!! |
| bendygirl | if anything, I do know who's on the organizing committee! |
| dmkelner | @rubyji too! |
| rubyji | Should we start a channel for #ddi-govcon planning and discussion? |
| sugaroverflow | #ddi-govcon-SQUAAAAAD. |
| rubyji | OK, done! I wasn’t sure who to invite so, Y’ALL COME. <#CB7SWDLLD|ddi-govcon> |
➤ Drupal Europe organizers for offering us a DD&I table - can’t wait to see what this will look like, thank you @gaborhojtsy + team.
➤ @drnikki for running for the DA board  Check out her candidate profile here:
➤ this awesome issue that puts a `meeting` component on core issues ``
➤ The exciting announcement about creating a ‘Community Projects’ section in the issue queues with a shoutout to DD&I:
➤ :stars: note - this “things to celebrate” is a new agenda item style that we’re thinking about where we can highlight and celebrate volunteers or D&I work in the Drupal community - thoughts?
as with many things this is a work in development.
| amyjune | Love it! |
| sugaroverflow | there were a bunch of them today, but I can see there being 1-2 or none in future meetings.
How do we feel about these? Would people submit some to the agenda issue if they have things they’d like to highlight? |
:ddi: :star: reminder! The transcript of this meeting will be exported and posted to the agenda issue. Since this is new, I thought a reminder would be helpful - you can still go back and edit your comments if you’d like:
➤ For anonymous comments, start with a :bust_in_silhouette: emoji. `:bust_in_silhouette:`
➤ For off the record comments or threads, start with a :no_entry_sign: emoji. `:no-entry-sign`
| ekl1773 | :raised_hand: How _does_ one export the transcript? |
| sugaroverflow | A slack admin has to do export it. |
| sugaroverflow | & then justafish has written a script that formats and filters it. I will share once I find the link  |
| sugaroverflow | Since so many teams are now using this format, I wonder if we can make one process :bulb: |
| sugaroverflow | Maybe we can discuss next week! |
| ekl1773 | Thankyouverymuch @sugaroverflow :slightly_smiling_face: One process would be good- I’m not sure who our slack admins are either. |
| ekl1773 | Ah, found them. Willing to bet cottser might do an export for mentoring, will ask… |
| sugaroverflow | Sounds good! It might be helpful for us to have a list of the exports needed and the days they’re needed on? |
| ekl1773 | *nod* does the script include removal of items marked off the record or anon? So the exporter only needs to export and be done? |
| sugaroverflow | Exporter just needs to export unless you want to give them task of the script running too. Script should have the filter soon I believe @justafish is updating it. |
| ekl1773 | Nono, trying not to make work for others! |
| ekl1773 | Actually @justafish justafish might be willing to export for mentoring too? she’s also already in the channel and all. But yes, a process to include a schedule, and some way to set a flag on a group or issue when there’s an item to be exported by any admin. I’m late to this game, thinking outloud a bit! |
| justafish | @ekl1773 which channel is this? I don't think I'm in there! |
| sparklingrobots | As a very late participant, it would be nice to know when exports happen (e.g. are we only exporting one hour? 24 hours?) |
| ekl1773 | @sparklingrobots Yes, that should be stated in the note about “this meeting is recorded”. ie posts starting at meeting start time + [meeting length] including all threaded replies posted within 24 hours. |
| sugaroverflow | @justafish what do you think the best way to organize export requests would be? I know there are other slack admins, maybe we can split the work somehow? |
:ddi: :ddi: :ddi: :ddi: :ddi: :ddi::ddi: :ddi: :ddi: :ddi: :ddi: :ddi:
Official meeting is over, but the conversations will continue.
Thank you for showing up and contributing to make this community a better space.
➤ To send feedback about DD&I, the leadership team, anything really (even anonymous love letters _wink_): ``
➤ And the work continues over at: ``
➤Agenda for next week: - Feel free to add to it!
P.S: thank you @rubyji for being my backup meeting lead today!
