In my display settings for the media bundle I have autoplay turned off (see screenshot, display mode "audio" ).
When I view media entity directly, it does not autoplay.
But when media is attached via reference field to a node, using the same display mode ("audio"), the soundcloud autoplays.
Any ideas?

I just wanted to say that I noticed this issue as well. I'm using this with Paragraphs module. It auto-plays regardless of the setting.
