Default instructions to install the library is to use Composer. In the case of a hosting that doesn't allow or enable SSH / CLI access, the option is to manually download and extract the library.

By following the 7.x.2.x versions installation instructions, I extracted the library in /core/vendor/facebook/php-sdk-v4 and /vendor/facebook/php-sdk-v4. However, we are still unable to run the module:

Simple FB Connect requires Facebook PHP SDK library. Make sure the library is installed via Composer. Check README.txt for installation instructions.

Please help to update documentation so to include a non-composer or manual installation for D8.

Composer is not only doing the actual download of the SDK library but it is also updating the autoloader definitions which control when the PHP classes are loaded. Drupal 8 is using so called lazy class loading which means that classes are loaded only when they are needed.

If you don't have command line access to the server (and can't move to a host that can provide it), you could try the following:

1. Install a local development environment to your own computer. WAMP is an easy to use alternative for Windows. If you are used to use command line like Linux, you might want to optionally install also Cygwin.

2. Install Composer to your local machine.

3. Build your site completely on your local machine and when you're done, upload everything to yor server with FTP. With Drupal 8 configuration management, you should be able to also get all your configurations with you.

I guess this should work. If you want to contribute to the documentation, it would be superb if you could document your findings of this path. We can then include the instructions to the module handbook for the rest of the community.

Cheers,
Markus

composer require "facebook/php-sdk-v4 ~5.0"

Hi Giuliovale,

Could you please explain your suggested approach a bit more? This issue is about a scenario where the site builder does NOT have a command line access to the server.

Cheers,
Markus

Composer is now even more the way to go after Drupal 8.1 when contributed Composer Manager module is no longer needed. I just updated the installation instructions for 8.x-3.x and now the only supported way of installing this module is via Composer (previously the Facebook SDK was supposed to be installed with Composer, now the whole Simple FB Connect module needs to be installed with Composer).

The manual installation of the SDK or the Simple FB Connect module will not be supported so I'm closing this issue as WONTFIX. If you don't have a command line access to the server, you can set up a local development environment to your own computer (for example WAMP), build the site on your local environment and then upload everything to your server.

Cheers,
Markus
