Right now, we can display it as a suffix of the field. Need a setting to display it with label. Like in attached screenshot.

We needed this functionality for a client so I decided to give this a go in the maxlength module. Hereby a patch to add a new option to the field settings to switch 'display mode' as I decided to call it.

Mind you that I did try to add the functionality to summary fields of text_with_summary type fields and title fields when not using the title module, but I have NOT tested this.

We are putting a feature freeze on the Drupal 7 version of the module, so I'm marking this Closed, won't fix. Thank you everyone for working on this issue. If you do want to maintain the Drupal 7 version, do reach out. We'd be happy to bring you on board as a maintainer.
