Building features
To get started, install Features and its dependency, Configuration Update Manager. Be sure to enable the Features UI module (included as part of the main Features project).
The configuration page where you build features is not the easiest to find--it's deeply nested at Administration > Configuration > Development > Features (admin/config/development/features
). As you get set up, you might want to add a shortcut. To do so:
- Enable the Shortcut module if it's not already enabled.
- Click "Shortcuts" in the menu bar.
- Click "Edit shortcuts" in the menu and then "Add shortcut".
- Enter "Manage Features" as the name and "/admin/config/development/features" as the path and save.
The following sections lead you through the steps of configuring and creating features.
If you have an existing module that you want to convert into a features module, all you need to do is add an empty "modulename.features.yml" file to your module's base directory and then you will see the module listed in the Features page and can edit it and add config via the UI.
