Commerce Coupon 2.x is far superior to Commerce Coupon 1.x, with more releases and integration into the current state of Commerce Discount itself. However, because it is not marked as the recommended version, people continue to install Commerce Coupon 1.x - even though the upgrade path is currently broken. This means people are defaulting to an inferior version of the product that cannot be upgraded to work with the latest versions of the code.
What is the reason for not switching the recommended release right now?
If it's purely because of the upgrade path, it should still be switched and the release notes and project page can simply specify that an upgrade from 1.x is not currently supported. And fwiw, I installed Commerce Coupon 1.x on accident locally b/c I used drush. I realized the problem after I was missing a way to add coupons to discounts, so I tried to update to 2.x without any coupons defined or in use on the site and it didn't work.

davidarthur commentedI've just hit the exact same problem, please switch default to v2.x, on a new install Commerce Coupon v1 is very difficult to figure out. Its not what I was expecting at all, same thing... installed using drush.

torgospizzaI think this should happen soon. New sites should absolutely use 2.x.
