Scan existing accounts does not work [#2550607]

I installed that module, selected 10 users check per cron and setup the stopforumspam APIkey, but nothing happens:
- an IP reported 80 times was ignored, not blocked
- cron scanning does not do anything.

What could I miss?

Update:
The module actually works and blocks known spammers.
However cron scan does not work.
I am using ultimate cron that shows that the spambot job keeps starting, never ends.
