I'm just curious as to whether Danland will have a Drupal 8 version? I'm working on a theme using Bartik as a base that is styled like Danland. Calling it Danbar right now, but would be happy to give it up if one is planned here. Danland is a very nice theme and popular with over 20,000 users.

Could this issue be a good place to discuss strategy such as whether it would be a good idea to base the theme on for example AdaptiveTheme theme base, or a design variant of for example PixtureReloaded or Mix_and_Match themes?

From my perspective, Danland has the following advantages, but that is only if it adds to other mobile-friendly features etc.:

- I really _LOVE_ its effect on the maintenance page,,. :-) (seriously! Hard to find ANY alternatives)
- The regions are nice
- What I would really want is the easy way to make a text-over-image effect for real node-based image fields in for example a Views slideshow. I am not using the slideshow feature other than on the maintenance page for that reason. Need to use real and dynamic content for the slideshow.
- I like the design and fonts etc., spacing, colors, and such things.
- But I need the flexibility of the extra settings that for example the Mix_and_match theme offers. Easy, GUI ways of adjusting block background colors, etc.

So, for me the wishes for a strategy that also includes potential future backports to a D7 version boils down to this:

- maintenance mode with static images from the file system and text-over-image with cool transparency
- possibility for customizing the text etc. on the Maintenance page further, for example removing the static text "Site under maintenance" that is difficult to get rid of without hacking the code.
- a way to add the text-on-image effect _easily_ (for non-tech users) to titles of an existing views slideshow of dynamic content
- a stylesheet or "colorpicker scheme" that can be selected and added (override) an existing theme, so we can get the fonts, colors, spacing, etc., yet still not loose other features that Danland does not have, and which would probably be overkill to try to build into Danland

These are few and small things, compared to all the normal overhead of maitaining mobile-friendly functionality, etc. In particular; having the flexibility to easily decide where the sidebars should be placed; often I have both on the right side, and it is wonderful to get the features of shifting the sidebars based on mobile layouts like we have in Pixture_reloaded and Mix_and_match.

I therefore wonder if this theme should benefit on piggybacking on another one, like https://www.drupal.org/project/mix_and_match, and letting others easily extend and make variants of it, therefore I think it is good to base it on something like https://www.drupal.org/project/adaptivetheme

Then there is another slightly relevant wish too - Administrative theme:

- Drupal7 works very well, and I am less worried now about whether the admin area could be completely screwed up by a theme, but SORELY miss flexible regions and sidebars also for the Administrative Theme. If Danland could prove stable and simple in its "blog" version, maybe that could help cover the area of too few stable admin themes with flexible regions and columns.
