Book release front page promotion(s) [#2117541]

Hi,

I've just created a lot of book pages, and I've seen that I have the 'promote to front page' permission. Thanks a lot!

One of the things I missed during the Drupal.org redesign is that we no longer promote book releases to the front page. I've promoted the last book released (in September) to the front page temporarily, as a test case. It's already a bit old, so it entered at the bottom of the news section, but for the brief time it was there, it got the relevance that a contribution of this type to the Drupal community deserves.

The next book is 'High Performance Drupal', and the new book page is https://drupal.org/node/2119971
The book will be released in early November according to Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/144939261X/?tag=drupal0a-20). I've contacted Tag1 to provide some content for the book description.

I know I jumped the rules a bit during this, but my question to everyone, is: would it be acceptable to promote these books to the frontpage? Can we promote the HPD book on November 4?

First, I've completely forgotten we have a book section here. It's very well hidden, and I wouldn't mind getting people looking at what's available. However, simply promoting the Book Node isn't enough.

With that in mind, I'd have to encourage the following:

1. It would be a forum post in News and Announcement
2. It's not a press release. It should have some details about what it's about, who it's for.
3. Link to sample chapter would be great.
3. Link to the Book Content Type node and the Book section to help promote those, too.

Hi silverwing,

You're not the only one to forget there was a book section. It's mostly ignored including by book publishers, even though the DA derives some income from the Amazon referrals.

I'd hate to have both a forum post and the book content page referring to the same item. Mostly because the content would be the same on both pages, and we'd be splitting the comments between those nodes. (#1 and #3b).

By design, the what's it about and who's it for is already part of the book listing page. (#2)

Link to a sample chapter is currently not foreseen in the listing and it might be a bit too much effort to get permissions to publish in our site. We can easily link to the publisher's website, but since the DA only derives income from Amazon.com or Packt sales, the guidelines do not allow links to anyone but Packt. (#3a).

My question to you: why do you require a forum post.. What's missing in the book page that requires the forum post instead?

Let me know if anything is needed to push this forward for High Performance Drupal specifically. In this case, we do have some sample chapters online via O'Reilly:

Currently, I believe that is "pre-release" (not/minimally edited) content, but we're in the process of getting it updated.

Since we already have the book page on d.o, I'm with Joao that I don't understand the need for a forum post as well.
