Gittip is fast becoming a valuable source of funding for Drupal contributors (see the Drupal community page for examples). If it were more closely integrated into drupal.org the potential for helping our community would be even bigger.
It would be nice to create a profile field for this service. Already 21 people have added a gittip link to their profile somewhere.
Potential ideas once this is done that are not possible until then:
* A contrib module that looks at modules installed on your site, finds their maintainers, and then helps you tip the authors of the module.
* Other stuff.
Specific field proposal
https://drupal.org/admin/user/profile/add/url
* Category: Personal Information
* Title "Gittip profile url"
* profile_gittip_url
* Explanation: Add the url of your profile on https://www.gittip.com/
* Visibility: Public field, content shown on profile page but not used on member list pages.
* Rest: defaults

wim leersYes!
That's precisely what I've been thinking too!

gregglesAlexpott is now making enough on gittip to fund his work for the next 5 months. Other community members are making smaller but still substantial amounts that help their work (e.g. patrickd at $80+).
There are already 28 people who have added gittip to a profile field on d.o!
I've updated the issue body with the full proposal for this field and basically consider it RTBC.

dddave commentedTo not make this look like a unilateral process: +1

kattekrab commentedYep I also think this is worth doing.
Especially as it seems very hard to discover all the 400+ Drupal members of the community currently via gittip itself. It only shows the 12 newest, most giving and most receiving. I'd like to dig down deeper than that....

gregglesThanks, Kattekrab for the +1 and reminder. Now done :)

wim leersYay :)
P.S.: greggles, I think you made a typo. The gittip profile field shows up in a separate "Personal Information" fieldset, rather than in the existing "Personal information" fieldset. Note the different capitalization for "information". You may want to fix that :)

gregglesHmm.
There were a lot of fields like that. Fixed now?
