installed the theme but no theme available. just a message stating its not compatible

the elements theme installed (ie. looked like installing) -- version: drupal 7.23 fresh install

but theme selection page shows:

Elements theme 7.x-1.0-alpha1
Minimalistic two-column theme.
This version is not compatible with Drupal 7.x and should be replaced.

I could not find a way to uninstall the package and i could not find it in the theme folder. ( i am new to drupal i can easily look at the wrong place.)
