charlie charles CreditAttribution: charlie charles commentedWhat I was doing wrong was
1.Content > Add Content > group from "class"
Instead the correct way to do it is
2.Content > Add Content > group from "school"
When I did this the menu group tab showed

The way you tried you described in Issue summary was correct.
For me, what happened was after selecting the bundle and OG vocabulary field, the Field name that was proposed was og_group_ref, which already exists. Pressing "Add field" gets the error message "Field OG vocabulary already exists in (Content Type)". Only by editing the field name to something unique the field can be created.
So, maybe this is not a bug, but the UI should somehow suggest a unique field name or advice that you have to edit the field name to a unique one.
