The new version of bio rules...don't get me wrong. But to me, there's a usability issue that could be improved:

Adding required fields during registration was killer. But let's think thru what happens when your bio nodes have required fields (on the registration form) and non-required fields (not on the registration form)....

If i'm a regular user, I'll register and fill out the required fields. My registration is then complete and I start to use the site. But, how do I know that there's more fields for me to fill out? Once I fill out some fields on during registration, I falsely assume that my profile is done. Which leaves us with a ton of users with half-filled out profiles (simply because they didn't know there was more).

The solution? I'd love to see the ability, after registration, to dump that user to the bio-edit screen, which would make it obvious that there's more to fill out (maybe even making more fields further required at this step (not sure how that would happen)). Then, there's no confusion: I registered, but my profile is not complete..I see more to fill out.

So, to recap: A registration workflow as follows would be beautiful:

  • User registers, filling out normal stuff, plus the required bio node fields
  • Upon completion (if using logintoboggan) or account confirmation and login (using regular registration method) user is directed to the bio node's edit screen where they can see more stuff to be filled out
  • Ideally, further fields not required on the registration screen would be required before leaving the bio node's edit screen

To me...this would make a very user friendly registration/profile process with little opportunity for user confusion.

try login_destination module and maybe others.

Yeah, I understand that other modules may help with this. But, my goal with this comment was to improve bio module, not fix my own particular problem. I think if we could get bio module to be a 'one stop solution' to users as nodes, that would be best for alot of people seeking this solution.
