I ran drush pm-update, and it threw up endless errors like below:
strpos(): Empty delimiter pm.drush.inc:1131 [warning

To ensure this was not a problem with drush, I went to other sites I have on the same system and ran drush pm-update against them, and none other has issues ..

A search on drupal.org shows a similar issue reported dec-2011 (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=strpos()%3A%20empty%20delimiter%20pm.drush.inc%3A1131&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CDUQrAIoATAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdrupal.org%2Fnode%2F1362636&ei=u6wBUfqCDYua1AX-ioCoBA&usg=AFQjCNEsxHxQOqMmRVLmHOOGWxgq6-A-NQ&bvm=bv.41524429,d.d2k)

.. but I am not sure this is related ..

Can you make sure you are running the latest version of drush?
Also can you let us know what version of drush it is.
