Here is a very rough start an outline for a 2.0-alpha1 release
The following is a proposal based on conversations with folks working on the Media module and hopes to establish some clarity on what needs to get done to have releasable code. At this time we should probably consider Media 2.0 feature frozen in order to address the major bugs in the issue queue.
At the top of the list any bugs that are related to upgrades need to be addressed. This list includes at least the following issues:
- #1846518: Document file types are undefined after module update
- #1792738: Allow custom file view modes for WYSIWYG display This: #1886722: URL of file formatter doesn't work in any view mode is similar or a duplicate of this issue.
- #1260050: Provide administrative UI for adding/removing file types
- #1268116: WYSIWYG does not record file usage
- #1872420: Add classes for embeded media items
- #1743040: "You have not selected anything!" error message, when a selection has clearly been made and #1833742: Submit button does not work in Media Browser when selecting media
- #1848034: Remove ctools edit form after uploading a new file in media browser
- #1903224: After upgrade I lost field and values from application file
- #1911970: The audio, image, and video file types should default to a wildcard mimetype selector
- #1937864: Unable to remove missing image from body content
Of lesser importance might be:
- #1887576: Code style cleanup for media module files
- #992978: Add 'View media browser library' permissions
- #1883670: Remove unused JS files
- #1883210: JS TypeError on file upload
- #835516: Add ability to edit file meta data and fields when embedded in WYSIWYG
Lower priority:
- #1026602: [meta] Write tests
- #1881152: Browser display cleanup
- #1885432: Figure out a way to keep markup output consistent in media embeds and #1506674: Adding a different class for each image styles
- #1406948: Clean up and remove includes/media.variables.inc

Dave ReidAll actual blocker issues should be using the '7.x-2.0 alpha blocker' tag: http://drupal.org/project/issues/search/media?status%5B%5D=Open&issue_ta...
It's hard to track/update a meta issue.

Dave ReidRevised link that limits the projects to just Media and File entity just in case other projects start using the tag: http://lb.cm/media-2-alpha-blockers

mactoph CreditAttribution: mactoph commentedThat last link you posted appears to be broken Dave, here is an updated link with the "7.x-2.0 alpha blocker" tag limited to the Media and File Entity projects.
