Ability to set zone as no grid

Is anybody interested in having a zone config that sets the zone to have no grid (with the overall theme set to a grid)? This would allow to have some zones on a page stretch content to the full width of the screen while other content is bound to the grid.

This could be achieved by overriding zone tpls, but might be nice to have in the UI. Is there another way to achieve this?

If this is of interest, I'd be happy to try and provide a patch.
