Problem/Motivation

I have the chance to see the hangout of the Views Usability Study 1 , so I asked around the minute 45 what does she think about the Exposed Filters of views.

You can hear is answer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=GXIdBXB3B5k#t=...

So, lets try to make this experience less painful.

I know there is an issue to merge and differentiate the Contextual Filters from Filters (Issue: #1668024), so I'm including the idea in this issue, but they are in fact different issues.

Proposed resolution

I think a initial solution would be split the creation of the filter and give the user the chance to select what type of filter does he want to add, standard, exposed or contextual.

Then, in a second step of the form, show the options based on his first selection.

I'm adding some really initial mock-ups of the main idea, to get some feedback and discuss the further implementation steps.

I think the 'preview widget' is something really useful at the time of create an exposed filter.

I think this is a wonderful idea for the UI side, but I think we should cover the basics and the API over in #1668024: Provide a unified user interface for static filters, exposed filters, contextual filters (arguments) and facets

I think it would be great to get a more tight integration with the front-end, so you can add/edit the filters from the preview or directly on the view.
