and I'm not sure what to do about it.
I'm just setting up a new site and I enabled the maintenance page, now I can't log in to disable it.
What do I do?

I think UID 1 should be able
I think UID 1 should be able to log in even if maintenance is active. Are you logging in as the main admin user, e.g. the user that was created immediately after your site was set up?
Edit: Some people always have the user logon box enabled and don't know that you can access it through http://hostname/?q=user. Apologies if you already know this.
Edit: Oops, Mel beat me to it :-)

Thanks!
once I realised that with clean urls on it should be '/user' o the end it worked a treat! I would not have known about that so thanks again!

Still works
?q=user will work whether you have clean URLs on or not, which is why I gave it in that format.
