I really enjoy using this module but I'm having some trouble getting it to work with rules. I'd like to know if what I'm trying to do is possible.

I have a user profile with an entity reference field. I have a rule that is triggered on user account creation that has an action "create node entity" with the variable "created_node_entity". I then added another action, "set a data value" that sets the user profile field containing the user reference to the "created_node_entity". Unfortunately, this doesn't work.

Is this a configuration error on my part or is it just not possible to set entity references with rules?

I see that this is not possible currently with entity references. I was able to accomplish my task using the Relation module instead.

You need to create an action of "Save entity" before the "set a data value" action. (With "Force saving immediately" option enabled)

It's definitely possible, also make sure you are pointing the value towards the entity-created variable and not trying to find entity-created: nid or something like that..
