Before you get too far into this project, you should check out what the Video module does and make sure you're not duplicating functionality. Video.module helps with transcoding, playback, client-side compatibility, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion. This app is really a very simple content app/feature that leverages the Media module. We are moving all the features for the Open Enterprise distro to Drupal.org for better management.
