Title: F2: The forum looks too much like a blog » Style Olivero's implementation of the forum module to look like a forum
Component: Bartik theme » Olivero theme
Issue tags: -Bartik

Yeah, I would also say this applies to Olivero. We don't have much extra styling for the forum module.

My understanding is that the forum module will be moved out of core in D11, but that may be 3-4 years away. We could probably work on this.

I personally think we could prob do the design in the browser and then hand off to @jwitkowski79 for review and adjustments. That'd be a lot quicker than getting a design and matching what we can do to the design.

We discussed this issue at #3327611: Drupal Usability Meeting 2022-12-30. That issue will have a link to a recording of the meeting.

For the record, the attendees at today's usability meeting were @benjifisher, @rkoller, and @shaal.

This issue is mostly about design, but there are some usability concerns. One thing to keep in mind are the available actions. Depending on permissions, someone viewing the forum may be able to add a new topic, start a new post, reply to a post, or just read what is already there. Make sure that the available actions are all clearly identified.

For comparison, we looked at a non-Drupal forum: Apfeltalk (German). One thing that indicates this is a forum is the user information: in addition to name and avatar, you can see how active the user is on the forum, with a contribution (Beiträge) count. Also, user roles (administrator, moderator, etc.) are shown.

I am not sure how much of that is in scope for the Olivero theme. If we want a separate User view mode for the forum, that might be something to implement in the Forum module.

Version: 10.1.x-dev » 11.x-dev

Drupal core is moving towards using a “main” branch. As an interim step, a new 11.x branch has been opened, as Drupal.org infrastructure cannot currently fully support a branch named main. New developments and disruptive changes should now be targeted for the 11.x branch, which currently accepts only minor-version allowed changes. For more information, see the Drupal core minor version schedule and the Allowed changes during the Drupal core release cycle.

Version: 11.x-dev » main

Drupal core is now using the main branch as the primary development branch. New developments and disruptive changes should now be targeted to the main branch.
