Hi
I've been happily using Zen on Drupal 6 for a couple of years, but now need to develop my first Dripal 7 site that also will have the distinction of being my first Panels based site.
My question is simple : is Zen a good base theme for a Durpal 7 / Panel site ?
Thanks for any advice or pointers.
El B

pixelwhip commentedZen plays well with Panels. I believe Zen 6.x comes packaged with custom Panel layouts, but it doesn't appear to be so with the current 7.x version. We recently built our own drupal 7 site using Panels 960gs and it worked pretty well.
On a side note, one thing that helped my grasp Panels when I first used it, is Panels only overrides your Content area- not the entire page. For something like that, you'll need Panels Everywhere.
Let us know what you decide and why. Good luck!

barraponto@pixelwhip: post your panels templates, if they were needed or developed, it might help people out. Specially John Albin if Panels templates are to come back to Zen 7.x-3.x

johnalbinThere's some work to be one in porting the layouts in Zen 6.x-2.x to 7.x-3.x.
I've created a feature branch called 7.x-3.x-1138744 with the unmodified panel layouts from the D6 version. It's likely they don't work yet. They could use testing and updating.
You can use these instructions to checkout that feature branch: http://drupal.org/node/88566/git-instructions/7.x-3.x-1138744/nonmaintainer

johnalbinI had to do some Panels work this week. So the layouts have now been ported. :-)
You can now find them in both 7.x-3.x and 7.x-5.x

manuel garcia commentedIs it just me or is the
layoutsfolder missing in the 7.x-5.x tarball?Comment #7
protonyx commentedI am interested in using Zen layouts in panels, but the
layoutsfolder is no longer in the tarball. When I tried the layouts from the Git branch, they don't show any content regions in panels.I am using Panels 7.x-3.3 and the Zen Starter Kit for a custom theme. I am using panels to get more flexibility with content placement, but I like the way that Zen works and would like to maintain similar functionality. Am I not understanding correctly? I feel like it shouldn't be so difficult to use panels inside a Zen theme.
