Views integration broken in 8.x-1.x since alpha4 release

Problem/Motivation

There was some work done by one of the maintainers to improve the view integration but it was a work in progress committed to the main branch that unfortunately got released with the alpha4 and the alpha5 releases.

Proposed resolution

There is now a 8.x-2.x branch that has that work in progress so we can work towards a stable release in the 8.x-1.x branch.
