I tried to install aegir from the debian package as mentioned on the documentation, but it seems like there is an error on http://community.aegirproject.org/node/400#Adding_backports_for_or_manua...
If you are running Debian wheezy or later, or Ubuntu Natty 11.04 or later, you don't need to do anything here.
suggests that whezzy drush(currently 5.4-1) is OK, but it is not now, I only installed aegir successfully with squeeze-backports drush(currently 4.5-2~bpo60+1)
So I guess the best idea is to force that version of drush, so it can be clear to the end user installing the package that the needed version should be less than 5.
I will provide a patch for it.
