hook_query_alter() in D7 is reliant on the multi-alter syntax that the new drupal_alter() supports. I did a quick-and-dirty backport and...whodathunk, it worked! I ripped out the theme stuff, but it's not relevant to dbtng anyway. So, seems like it should be ok...
