Please forgive me ... I am new to this and this problem has been thrown at me. I have this error message when loading up the website

The mysqli error was: Access denied for user *userdetails* (using password: YES).
I know the password for the account - I can access phpmyadmin .. I can see all the tables etc. The main password was changed yesterday due to a fall out with webmaster and he is not helping !
I have changed the password back to the original one thinking that there is something in the settings.php but that didnt help.
Can someone please help me!!
