You can set a lot of advanced settings in timeline's views settings:

Color coding

You can use view's Group by functionality to provide color coding on certain groups. This can be done on nearly all fields selected by the view (f.e. content type, taxonomy term, node title etc).

The drop down menu "Grouping colors" allows you to specify the colors used. Please enter them in a hexadecimal RGB format with an # symbol before. Examples: (Please use a new line for every color value)

#FF00FF
#FF0099
#998811
#008000
#FF00FF
#FFFF00

Display settings and themes

The display settings Width and Height refer to the size of the whole timeline view. Please use only % (percentage) or px (pixel) units for your values. Examples:

200px
80%

You can select one of the shipped themes or even a created one from the drop down menu Theme.

Width and height of bubbles allow you to define max dimensions of event bubbles. A limitation of the height enforces the use of a scroll bar if the content is too long.

Advanced event data

The way events are displayed on the timeline depends on the data that views provides the timeline. You can select in Field usage which date field corresponds to the start, end, earliestStart and latestEnd. Depending on the presence of these fields the timeline shows events like illustrated here:

Date Mapping

If you have an imagefield or a taxonomy image field selected in your view. You can use this as an icon for non duration events. And if you have Imagecache installed you can push the icons through a special preset. Please note that you might want to create a new theme if the icons bigger than 10px x 10px.
