Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

phpBB style forums

I have a Drupal site up and running which is being actively used by roughly 600 users. All in all I'm very pleased with Drupal. I found it easy to set up, configure and implement despite having zero knowledge of PHP. Now that the users have been using it for about a month they're starting to ask if it's possible to have a more phpBB style forum, where everything is "flat" rather than the indented (and I feel superior) style that the Drupal features.

Allow html in story node, not other nodes

Since Drupal doesn't have the capability to allow admins to use html without also enabling for all users, I wonder if it would be possible to conditionally apply the html filter?

For example, if the node is the story node, then don't have the html filter apply. This would work well in my case, since the admin is the only one allowed to create a story.

I am mostly php illiterate and would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction to make this modification. Or it's not possible ...

Questions about Blogs and Menus

Hey everyone, been working on my new drupal site for a month now (rombus.sytes.net) and i have 2 questions:
1. is there any way to display blog entries by catagory? i have been searching for a while now and have not figured out how to do this
2. Is there a better menu than menu.module? i like how it looks and works, but i hate how it has to reload the page every time, would the Dhtml menus module work better? anyone have an example of it?

MYSQL Blocked

Went to the home page of one of my sites today and got this error:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Host 'localhost.localdomain' is blocked because of many connection errors. Unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts' in /home/virtual/site5/fst/var/www/html/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 12
Host 'localhost.localdomain' is blocked because of many connection errors. Unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts'

Can anyone help with this? Not necessarily fixing, but would be helpful, but more what would have caused this.

Thanks,
Brad

Font Rendering in IE with Xtemplate

I have just launched my new website running drupal 4.3.2 and something based on the xtemplate theme. I was having a serious problem with blocks of text being the same color as the background in IE (randomly). I seem to have isolated that problem by altering some of the padding in my css. I have noticed a not as big problem, but similarly annoying, when displaying nodes that contain unordered lists (in IE). Some lines won't render correctly, maybe you can only see half the line, maybe the whole line. The common thread on all the pages it seems to happen on is the unordered list.

Story on more than one page?

I realise if you're going to add a fairly sizable story to a site it would probably be best to create a book with the relevant content. However if you have a story which is just too large to place on one page, but just too small to create a new book out of - is there a way to split a story into two pages - such that you have a 'next page' or '1 2' link at the bottom?
