Multilevel menus?

Has anyone considered extending Drupal so that it could support Multi-Level menus? I'm finding that as I add more and more functionality to a site ... a good thing! ... the more cluttered the menu bar becomes, and harder to manage navigating for users.

How much work would it be to extend Drupal so that all modules had a configurable "menu level"? I'm not much of a programmer, but here are a couple of thoughts:

A simple Admin option that the admin could define "top level" (eg level 1), "secondary level" (level 2), "tertiary level" (level 3), etc... Then the menu bar would get built such that a CSS menu pops down or to the right, or to the left (depending on it's location) so that second/third (etc...) tier level menus are then exposed.

Another thought might be to have each module register itself within a Taxonomy vocabulary, then some function allows the admin to juggle the level settings of that?

I think this would go a long long ways to improving usability, ease of navigation, site cohesion, and better layout/design. Any thoughts?

I'm willing to do some of the work on this - but I'm not mucy of a programmer - so would need a lot of pointers or help.

Comparison of CMSs

Could anyone compare Drupal with other CMSs as it has been done at WebGUI developer at http://www.plainblack.com/product_comparison?

Also, is there someone really serious guy with Perl/PHP/Graphics/SiteNavigation knowledge to volunteer the pioneering operational model of webocracy, eParliament.org. We have tested several opensource CMSs but none of them meets our requirement. Interested can get partial information at http://www.eParliament.org.

Manila to Drupal , a user/administrator's experience.

I am running a user community website on drupal , that has recently been switched over from Userland Manila. One of the most requested features , and the feature i weighted most heavily in choosing a CMS system to relaunch with .. is the ability to have 'hosted sites'.

After reading up on the different blogging engines, I realized that none of them had the ability to the extent that I would require .. although drupal would be the most likely to have the addition of such being as painless as possible, and I fell in love with the cleanliness and the amount of thought having gone into the node system.

Drupal is almost there, I am working towards making the shift as seamless as possible , but the hosted sites functionality is still the big ticket item lacking, I have old users still asking me on an almost weekly basis when the user sites will be implemented.. but I finally feel that that day is almost here.
