WriteAlt is a Drupal module for generating AI-assisted alt text for Drupal Media image fields and optimizing supported image files in place.

The module uses Drupal services and APIs for configuration, permissions, routing, entity access, file handling, CSRF validation, and Media field updates. The WriteAlt API key is stored in Drupal configuration and is not placed in browser JavaScript. Image files are sent to the WriteAlt API only when the user requests generation. Generated text is saved to Drupal’s native image alt field.

The module has no third-party runtime libraries beyond Drupal core services. The project is maintained by the person who wrote and committed the module code.
