Hi,
I would like to use this in a scenario where the person submitting the form never gets the merged document, but instead have it available for download to someone with permission to view webform results, maybe with a download link on the results list?

Can we look at sponsoring development for this feature, it would be great to have this function precisely in the same way as webform2pdf does, by enabling a download documents option in the results page.

It looks like I am pretty likely to develop this feature as part of client work, where we actually want to save the file to the file system as part of a process that embeds Webforms.

I'll try to keep the functionality generic and post the patch...if it deviates too much from "download link" (it might only be a function to generate the file but not auto-serve it as a download) then I will post it in a separate issue and mention it here.
