I'm trying to add path aliases to nodes that should only appear on a virtual site. Is there a way I can make sure they don't collide with path aliases on the main site? Is there something like prefixing or a separate db table I could use? I can do some PHP coding if I'm given the right pointers..
Has anyone tried this before?

Here's the simple "Why didn't I think of that" answer: use your taxonomy in combination with the pathauto and globalredirect plug-ins. Unless you're doing something like separate stores, forums or multi-user blogs it should work just fine.
