This is especially critical for radiobutton groups but holds for all optional filters: there should be an "any" option for users to select, with the effect of inactivating the filter (it could just do nothing, except de-selecting the other options using javascript).

I believe this is already the case. Could you give an example of a filter set as radiobuttons that doesn't start with an option?
