I enabled the default 'archive' view in order to show a block with a list of monthly posts. The view works fine except for the sorting. It sorts ascending even when it is configured to sort descending. This only affects the block view as the page view works correctly. The preview is sorted correctly as well. See attached screen shot of my view settings.

The archive block is a summary view, and there are special sorting rules for summaries. Edit the argument and change the default action there.

Thank you merlinofchaos. I didn't realize the default settings didn't carry through to the block. My issue is fixed.
