could someone with more insight into views, exposed filters and handlers provide some pointers (advice, or links to docs or other issues) to http://drupal.org/node/754204#comment-2850530 (#754204: Using select list for distance in proximity search)

I think we have a chance to do something The Right Way, but we need a bit of help going in the right direction.
