cannot change number of items in image_gallery view - is it Views or Image issue?

I have been discussing with joachim over at the Image issue queue #574972: unlimited items in gallery view setting ignored, default used displaying ten (actually, the default is displaying 12 items, not ten)

It seems that I am the only one reporting this problem, but I am having it on two different sites using D 6.13

Perhaps it is an issue with Views and not with Image?

Rather than re-attach the screencaps I attached to the Image queue, I am linking to them inline.

image_gallery Defaults View defaults to 12 items ( http://drupal.org/files/issues/netsperience-View-image_gallery-Defaults-... ) and cannot be changed - even after it is set to Unlimited, when editing it shows that the default is still actually 12 ( http://drupal.org/files/issues/netsperience-View-image_gallery-Defaults-... )

the Override is not applied on Update - the Gallery page View reverts to 12 items ( http://drupal.org/files/issues/netsperience-View-image_gallery-Gallery_p... )

if I disable the image_gallery View, the gallery display reverts to the default setting in image gallery admin (16 items) - but with the image_gallery view enabled, 12 items are displayed, according to setting in image_gallery View that cannot be changed

the image_gallery_terms View is set to Unlimited items ( http://drupal.org/files/issues/netsperience-View-image_gallery_terms.jpg )

I tried to add a Gallery page display to the image_gallery_terms View ( http://drupal.org/files/issues/netsperience-View-image_gallery_terms-add... ) but when I save the view the Gallery page display is not saved

I reverted to Image 6.x-1.0-alpha4 which does not use Views, so I can set the number of items displayed on the Gallery page. I suppose another option is to use the latest Image release (or the dev release as joachim suggested) and disable the image_gallery view.
