I am trying to find a way to have posts from a particular forum be automatically promoted to the front page in a blog style, but then still be part of the normal forums. I thought I might be able to do this with filtering in Views, but haven't found any way to differentiate between fora. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

You would probably be best off using triggers to automatically set the 'promote to front page' field in the forum post under the right conditions. This isn't really something Views does because what you really want is a way to set conditions at the right time, which isn't what Views does. And trying to write a view which is all blog posts + all posts from a particular forum is kind of difficult.

Thanks for this, I will look up triggers. I might not have been very clear in what I said - I meant a 'blog style', rather than the actual blog type of data. It's a website for posting recipes, and there will be other forums, but I only want the recipe posts to make it to the front page.

I have now managed to achieve what I'd hoped to do. In the end, it is quite a simple solution - not particularly elegant, but it easily does the job.

I have used Views to create a front page, and filtered by Taxonomy, using the names of the fora I wish to have displayed on the front page.

I hope this can be of use to someone else.
