Using A Views Page's Exposed Filter To Also Affect An Additional Views Block

I have hunted around but can't seem to find any reference to my problem elsewhere.

I currently have a views page displaying a list of nodes dependent on an exposed filter. The exposed filter uses the location module for a post code/zipcode input. This then displays nodes that are geocoded within a 25 mile radius.

I now want to add a block to this views page, which would show a completely different set of nodes and node types to those displayed in the page. However, all of the nodes in this new block view are also using the location module and are geocoded.

My end result will be a views page of node type X and a separate block on this page which shows nodes by type Y, but crucially both displays will be dependent on the user input in the exposed filter on the views page.

I understand the principle for arguments for a views block on a standard node page, but I can't seem to find a way of using arguments for a block view dependent on a page view.

Any ideas?
