All of the sudden my views broke. I was fiddling with cron and I noticed that the view on the front page stopped working.

Now I have removed all the views, I have disabled all views-related modules, and reinstalled just views, and to my surprise even the default views are broken. They are listed in /admin/build/views/ as "Default Broken view: archive (default) "

I noticed that in /admin/build/views/add/ I can not select as view type "node" (the plain old one!), even not after a complete un- and reinstall of the views module. If this type is not possible that would indeed explain why the views would be broken, but I couldn't find any issues where the node type disappeared.

All my other content seems to be unharmed....

Weird, I'll try to go back to views 2 now...

OMG View 2 also broken! No node views available!

So i copied a selection of node, user and content database tables into an older backup of the site, and there the views were working, after some tweaking fine with the up to date content.

No clue what was wrong though.

This happened to me as well, also while trying to solve Cron problems. Under 'add new view', the radio button for 'Node' view-types is missing, and the title is missing from all of my existing views on the site.

1) Does anyone have a guess as to why the Node:Title fields would come up as broken/missing handlers (but not Node:Body)?

2) eiland, if you're still active, I would appreciate it if you could tell me what exactly 'fiddling with cron', as you say, consisted of. The cron hook for the search module was getting stuck and I tried installing both Supercron and Elysia Cron to see if they would help - it may be that one of those modules, or their interaction, caused this, but that's just a guess. Any more info would be great!

Many thanks.

After restoring a db backup all was back to normal. But then when I edited a view and saved the edits, the same thing happened. The Node view option disappeared from the 'Add View' page and various basic fields like Node Title now show up as 'Broken/missing handler' in the views UI and have disappeared from the view itself.

So: what is happening when I save a view that would lead to Views misplacing these handlers? Those of you who understand the guts of this module better than I do might be able to think about what happens when a View is saved and why the handler might be misplaced at this moment.
