How to use "base path" on Contextual Filter to get url alias?

I am trying to create a jump menu of taxonomy terms, linked to their respective taxonomy term pages, using the contextual filter "Taxonomy term: Name". The taxonomy term pages have automatically generated url aliases based on "dogs/[term:parents]/[term:name]". The contextual filter asks for a base path. What do I need to put as the base path in order to get the correct url alias, or am I just going about this all wrong?
