I had the warning on my available updates page a week or so ago. i uploaded the new views module and it broke many pages. I had uploaded the previous version and it correcterd my broken pages. I have since had other issues and have tried uploading the most recent version again and even the dev version and the problem I am having now which is also breaking many page views is the views module is not appearing on the modules page or the avaiable updates page even though the module is or has been uploaded and the views folder is located in the sites/all/modules folder.
Any ideas what is going on with the views module. I have tried a number of things but the site just wont recognize the views module. The modules page is even showing (Missing) for the views module where it is required by other modules.
Thanks,

merlinofchaos commentedWhat warning?
What version?
Broke how?
if the module is showing up as 'missing' that usually means the .info file can't be found. This suggests an incomplete or improper installation. Views comes with a lot of files, make sure they all got unpacked from the tar.gz file properly.

modiphier commented1. The warning that there was an available update.
2. views-6.x-2.11 was working ok until I uloaded 6.x-2.12
3. The pages load but they show a page not found error. Eamples of these pages would be the admin dashboard page which is part of the dashboard module manaaage users or admin/dashboard/user as well as a page called conent-summary which may be associated with the workspace module. I am not even sure these pages have anything to do with the views module but when I first experienced these issues it was from the uploading of the 6x-2.12 version, I downgraded back to 6x-2.11 and it fixed it but now there is all kind of things happening and like I said the views module isn't even appearing on the modules page.
I will go look to see if the file was unpacked correctly but I have tried many times and I am doubtful it is something as simple as that but I will double check.
Thanks,

modiphier commentedjust uploaded the 6x-2.12 version again and this is what I get on the modules page.
Depends on: Views (missing)
I'm baffled...
dawehnerAre you sure you have uploaded the full views directory?
merlinofchaos commentedThere is exactly 3 lines of code difference between Views 2.11 and Views 2.12, and they're a trivial XSS injection fix having to do with Views' arguments. There is no way that something between 2.11 and 2.12 affected any pages in admin/*.
I realize that your symptoms are coincidental with updating Views, but there must be something else going on here.
modiphier commentedOk I understand.. I did do the 6.20 core update a few days ago also but other than that I haven't done anything.. I did notice the problem start when I uploaded the view update last week and I had posted a question then. I happen to upload the previous version and the problem did go away but without me really do anything since last week I noticed these issues this week so I don't really know what I may have uploaded to cause this but I started with the views module since it was the only thing I did recently. Why is my install not even seeing the views module on the modules page... Could this be from the core update??
esmerel commentedYes, it could be core. Maybe. Also, you could have unpacked the views package in the wrong place, and Drupal core can't find it. Perhaps you could doublecheck that and maybe try downloading views again and unpacking it and making sure update.php ran.

beckyjohnson commentedI had an issue like this recently and it turned out that my FTP client was not uploading all of the files in the module folder and i had to go back and do it by hand. Are you having this issue maybe? Are you sure all the pages uploaded?
modiphier commentedI have unpacked the zip and the tar file over three times each and uploaded them to the /sites/all/modules folder a number of times and still nothing..
modiphier commentedafter another attempt to upload the views module. This is what appears on my modules page.
Views Bulk Operations 6.x-1.10 Exposes new Views style 'Bulk Operations' for selecting multiple nodes and applying operations on them.
Depends on: Views (missing)
Required by: Total Control (disabled), Total Workflow Control (disabled)
Views UI 6.x-2.12 Administrative interface to views. Without this module, you cannot create or edit your views.
Depends on: Views (missing)
Views content panes 6.x-1.8 Allows Views content to be used in Panels, Dashboard and other modules which use the CTools Content API.
Depends on: Chaos tools (enabled), Views (missing)
Required by: Total Control (disabled), Total Workflow Control (disabled)
Views exporter 6.x-2.12 Allows exporting multiple views at once.
Depends on: Views (missing)
Notice the Views module is showing as Missing yet I just uploaded it... I have uploaded 6.x-2.11, 6.x-2.12 and even 6.x-3.x-dev and I get the same results. It was working fine prior to this most recent update. It seems to have broken some other things within my site and i am still baffled at how or what to do to try to repair this issue.
I also make sure I delete the veiws entry in the system table which I have read is what will allow drupal to reinstall the database tables for this module but still just isn't happening.
modiphier commentedI just happen to go look at the system table in my database and I see that the tables for
sites/all/modules/views/views_export/views_export....
sites/all/modules/views/views_ui.module
have been recreated but nothing for just the views module.. Can there be an issue with the install files that are bundled with the download?
Something is preventing this module from installing correctly.
tuzoo commentedI have the same problem..I've updated some modules (including views) and now views doesn't show up anymore on the adminpage and I can't access it via the direct url.
views is listed on the modulespage and the existing views still work..
this happened with drupal 6.19 and views 2.12.. I downgraded to 2.11, but that didn't help
I upgraded drupal and that didn't work either..
**EDIT: I just realized that it was my fault..everything fine again..
modiphier commentedOk... so I partially corrected this issue. DONT ASK ME HOW but somehow there was a views.module file sitting in the /sites/all/modules/ folder so it must have been conflicting with the actuall module. I deleted this rogue file and the views module became available to the site again. The only problem I am having is while using the views module to display a page containg a list of Pending reviews it is not working as it used to. I have various editors and writer roles. This view was showing the editor for the corrosponding content type the pending reviews but for some reason it now is listing all content types instead of just the ones the particular editor has publish rights for.
thanks.
dawehnerSo this is fixed
Comment #16
modiphier commentedyes for the most part... I still have an issue with this latest version of views and how it broke my view of the pending content page but it may not have anything to do with the views module.. I am not exactly sure it may be the revisions module that has something to do with this. but yes the original issue has been corrected.
thanks
