Problem/Motivation

composer.json pins symfony/cache to ^6:

"symfony/cache": "^6"

drupal/core doesn't require symfony/cache directly, so this isn't an issue today even on Drupal 11 with Symfony 7 components,but it will block installs the day something else in a project's dependency tree needs symfony/cache ^7.

The module only touches Psr\Cache\CacheItemPoolInterface and Symfony\Component\Cache\PruneableInterface, both unchanged between 6.4 and 7.4, so I think that widening the constraint is safe.

Steps to reproduce

N/A.

Proposed resolution

"symfony/cache": "^6 || ^7"

Remaining tasks

  • Update composer.json in the 3.0.x and 3.x branches.
  • Tag a new release.

Any reason for us to not allow ^8 at the same time?

And phpunit test failures can likely be ignored for now, seems like most of my projects are apparently impacted by some non backwards compatible gitlab_template changes sometime in the past.
