I'd like to have a feature to delete all revisions (probably by content type), leaving only the current version of a node. I do not expect this to disable future revisions for that type, but that would be a nice feature.

It would be better than having to install other projects because this should be a definite feature in core. If it has revisions, there should be a way to delete revisions, and even set revision thresholds (such as having a max of 10, or purging every week, etc.)

Yes, but it seems unlikely that it will be in core - at least before D8.
