I have a userreference on my 'Message' node type entitled 'To' and selected it in admin/settings/userreference_access.

Users can only see nodes they created and are referencing themselves. If the author references another user, then neither will have access to the node.

Please help in testing and documenting the behavior of this module

Use Nodeaccess Userreference instead.
