You might want to include a note on the project page that using the module and jQuery 1.4.2 may produce javascript errors.

Many things don't work with 1.4.2, including Ctools, when I last checked.

There is also a critical patch coming to core which will resolve this:

and I submitted a patch that fixes Panels via CTools today:
http://drupal.org/node/874388

once these are comitted we can use jQuery 1.4.2 and everything works without hacky workarounds

It might be a good idea to release a uniform lib 1.5 version of the uniform module. Uniform 1.5 is compatible with jQuery 1.3.2. This is also the currently supported jquery version of the jQuery update module.
I got uniform 1.5 (with some minor git updates) running in a site I'm currently developing. But I'm not using the uniform module. I just downloaded jquery update and implemented the uniform library directly in the custom theme. It would be very nice to replace this solution with a different version of the uniform module.

I am not the developer of the Uniform library and as he has decided to use higher versions of the jQuery library I will not be trying to backport it.

If you would like this to be easier to implement then I suggest you focus on the outstanding Drupal core bug that is the problem:
