My IDE (Intellij) is reporting "Member has protected visibility" for "date". I don't run Drupal/contrib module tests locally, so it's not an issue of actually getting an error running the code, but the red squiggly line Intellij puts under date also appears all the way up the project folder tree - and that's rather annoying.

IntelliJ is confused about the magic around content entities, this is not a bug.

Is it not a Drupal policy now, or perhaps it has become a PHP "convention", to not use "magic" properties?

Not trying to be argumentative... really trying to learn what the current "Drupal Way" is.
