export to excel fails drupal 4.5 data set larger than 500

Using

Export failed somewhere after 500 responses to the survey in drupal 4.5
So clicking the "download to excel file" link to
http://www.example.com/node/xxx/responses/excel
Gets a no response in Firefox (loading goes for a couple of seconds and then nothing)
and a "Cannot find server" page in IE.

Added the survey_excel function from version

$Id: survey.module,v 1.5 2005/03/10 07:47:54 walkah Exp $

and the export now works with this older version of the function.
