e-mail template variable !cckvalue1_<fieldname>

I'm trying to use the variable, "!cckvalue1_" to set up an e-mail template. In my case, the field is field_company_name so the variable becomes "!cckvalue1_field_company_name". I understand that it is supposed to return an array, but don't know why. The field in question is a simple one-line text field and I'm getting this back:
Array, , Array, http://www.arnoldfuneralhome.com/, Array, 330-877-9364, Array, Arnold Funeral Services, Inc.

All I want is the company name, which is "Arnold Funeral Services, Inc."

Can anyone clarify?
