michelleThere's two modules: Subscriptions and Notifications. With recent improvements to subscriptions, both seem to be equally capable. So it's just a matter of which you like better. There's a slightly better chance of subscriptions having direct support in advforum because that's what I'm currently using, but both of them will work.

chrism2671 commentedOut of curiosity, why did you choose subscriptions over notifications?

michelleThe modules are _very_ similar. I went back and forth for a while but finally decided to go with subscriptions because of chx and also it's on Acquia's Carbon list. Just seemed to have a more trustworthy future. It's really a toss up, though. Notifications has some big backers, too.

chrism2671 commentedHi Michelle!
Good news - we'll be getting away from vBulletin and onto Advanced Forum in the next few weeks!
Just hope you could help me with a couple of things (sorry to rehash an old topic), related to subscriptions.
My questions are:
Many thanks! Hope all's well!
Chris.

michelleMost of these questions would be better suited to the subscriptions issue queue. I've got the module installed but I'm no expert in it.
As for simplifying the UI, I would really love to have a simpler UI but I don't have the js skills to do the UI I want. What I was thinking was something along the lines of the "share" module where you would simply have a "subscribe" link that pops up a box with the other options.
All of this is really unrelated to advforum, though. This would need to be done with the subscriptions module. When I said "here's a slightly better chance of subscriptions having direct support in advforum" that was really just a vague future thought. I don't have any concrete plan to code something specific to subscriptions in advforum right now.
I'm going to move this over to the subscriptions queue so you can get your questions answered.

salvisThanks, Michelle
On admin/settings/subscriptions/userdefaults you have
Auto-subscribe
[ ] Auto-subscribe to new content
Automatically subscribes you to items that you create.
[ ] Auto-subscribe to updated content
Automatically subscribes you to items that you update (if you have that permission).
[ ] Auto-subscribe to comments
Automatically subscribes you to items that you comment on (or where you update a comment, if you have that permission).
This lets you set the default choices for your users, and they have the same controls on user/UID/subscriptions, where they can change their personal settings if they want.
Please create a new Subscriptions feature request with a title like "One-button toggle switch for 'subscribe'" to discuss this further.
I'm not sure how to interpret "miffed" — what is your question?
BTW, there's no colon after the first item.
